Los Tucanes De Tijuana is an exemplary quintet hailing from Baja, California, Mexico. They emerged in 1982 after original members Mario Quintero Lara, David Hesis Fabelo Servin Raya, and Mario Moreno Quintero got together as a group and began performing at private parties and various events. The band officially created Los Tucanes De Tijuana in 1987 and moved to Los Angeles to pursue their career. Los Tucanes performed in the local Latin music district during their early days. Besides delivering live music, they were also consistently recording their works. In 1994, the band finally released their debut album, Me robaste el Corazon. The effort was shortly followed by Clave nueva in the same year and Mundo de Amor and 14 Tucanazos bien pesados the following year.

In 1996, the band began entering Billboard’s Latin charts. By 1999, their seventh album, Amor Platonico, was nominated at the prestigious Lo Nuestro Awards. In the same year, the band was nominated for Regional Mexican Group or Duo of the Year. Although they did not win the awards, the band gained several more recognitions throughout their 36-year career. In 2000, Los Tucanes earned their first three Grammy nominations. They also received two more Lo Nuestro nominations for Regional Mexican Album of the Year and Song of the Year. Two years later, the band received their first Grammy nomination for Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album for their 2002 effort, Jugo a la Vida. In 2012, the band finally won the first Latin Grammy Award when their album 365 dias won Best Norteño Album.

Speaking of nominations, La Original Banda el Limon also has a plethora of Latin Grammy nominations. In 1999, the Sinaloan 18-member group received their first nod when their hit, “Mi Suerte,” was nominated for Best Regional Mexican Song. The band, which has released over 40 critically-acclaimed albums, has garnered several prestigious accolades over the years – these include seven Premios Monitor Latino, one Lo Neuestro nomination, two Latin Billboard Music Awards nominations, one ASCAP Award, and three Texas Awards.
