Stray Cats are the ones to watch this year. These pioneers put rockabilly music back on the record charts in the early eighties and are still rocking out venues today! The band scored a number of big hits on both sides of the Atlantic. Their striking visual fifties style was brought up to date with over the top pompadours and colorful tattoos. Their authentic musical chops even evoke the key players of rockabilly's original heyday. Stray Cats was formed by guitarist and vocalist Brian Setzer, upright bass player Lee Rocker, as well as the talented drummer Slim Jim Phantom on the South Shore of Long Island. The dynamic trio shared a passion for rockabilly tunes and after dipping their toes in New York and Philadelphia for a couple months in the summer of 1980, Stray Cats’ mutual friend persuaded them to hop on a plane to London where a rockabilly revival movement was just starting to emerge. They were such a hit that they were nominated for a GRAMMY award in the Best New Artist category in 1983. The trio’s smash hits include "Runaway Boys," "Rock This Town," "Stray Cat Strut" "(She's) Sexy + 17," and "I Won't Stand in Your Way."
